Does anyone have any successful strategies for really leaving meth far behind and more importantly keeping it out of mind.

Rehab, and a very strong will

Narcotics Anonymous has meetings everywhere. I bet they're in the phone book. I've heard it helps.

Rehab is a good start. Then you have to stay away from people who use the drug. Hang around people who don't use drugs. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Rehab (one that is designed for meth addiction and I would have to do my research to find the few that are out there) and Narcotics anonymous, or methamphetamine anonymous if you have it in your area. There are many narcotic and methamphetamine addicts in my Alcoholics Anonymous groups. The 12 steps work if you work them. I can only think of one day at a time. Drinking is never far from my thoughts but I only have to not drink for today and if I can work with that I'm just fine. One day, after I have dilegently worked all my steps my Higher Power may take away my thoughts about wanting to drink.

I don't deal with it at all. Never had to, never will. It is a lack of willpower and a lack of purpose that gets one into these predicaments, and it will be willpower and a sense of purpose that gets one out.

I don't deal with it. I have never been stupid enough to try it, much less become addickted. Terry

This is truly a hard question. Dealing with any addition takes love and patience. Many times it takes tough love which is really hard on anyone. A person can go through treatment over and over, but if they are not ready for help it will not work. Hang in there though, my step father went through treatment 7 or 8 times before he finally gave up alcohol. The best thing for you is to get into a family therapy group that will give you the support and help you need to deal with this problem. Don't be an enabler, stick to the tough love theory it does work.

“Addiction should be understood as a chronic recurring illness that requires treatment.” Cravings can be significantly reduced by new medications, amino acids and other holistic approaches such as meditation. Because psychological illnesses and traumas often underlie addiction, treatment by mental health practitioners can be an important part of the process. Support systems like 12 step programs are critical for most. rug abuse is an age-old problem, but the spread of methamphetamine use has forced treatment specialists to rethink traditional recovery models. one of the failings of traditional treatment came from releasing addicts back into the same environment that helped produce the addiction in the first place. To avoid this familiar pitfall, set out to not only help the addict recover, but make their home environment a healthier place as well. “One of the things that keeps happening is that once the individual gets treated, they go back to their family, which is the same (environment) they came from. And they go right back where they started. So, there were relapse issues.” Good Luck
