Polar opposite drugs. Crystal meth is an intense stimulant. Methodone is a painkiller(depressant, opposite of stimulant) that is comparable to heroin and used to treat heroin addiction. |

Crystal meth is the hard stuff that keeps you addicted and f'd up. Methodone is a synthetic chemical that basically fools the brain into thinking that it's still getting the high that crystal meth gives, while in reality, the body's been "clean " of the actual stuff. Helps in rehab, i think. |

Methadone is not used to replace Crystal(and its withdrawal symptoms). Like some else stated, they are two different things, one goes up,the other goes down(or is used to stabilize heroin users) Once you go on methadone, basically there is no going off of it. |

There is a huge difference. Crystal meth is methamphetamine. When brought into the body ie: smoking, injecting, snorting or swallowing, it triggers the immediate release of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. The drug it self actually closely resembles the dopamine chemical in the brain itself. dopamine being one of the "feel good, good mood " feelings itself. Which is why the drug is so highly addictive. After sustained use, the brain loses its ability to Create the natural chemical itself because it has been overloaded with a chemical that it recognizes as its own. So your brain stops creating dopamine, resulting in sever depression and just about every other negative feeling you can think of. Crystal meth or methamphetamine is psycostimulant. Methadone is a synthetic(man made in a lab) opiate agonist. It is used for treating heroin dependance/ addiction, and for its painkilling effects. It is most commonly prescribed for back pain, that may be chronic or after a operation. Methadone works by entering the body and attaching itself to opiod receptors in the brain, spine and gastrointestinal tract. Thus blocking the messages of pain that your body sends to the brain. Methadone is usually used when doctors arn't comfortable prescribing other painkillers such as oxycontin, dilaudid, oxymorphone(opana) or fentanyl. People will argue this, but that is pretty much the only reason they prescribe it instead of the other painkillers. So in easy terms, crystal meth is a "upper " and methadone is a "downer ". Methadone is useful for treating drug addicts because of its half life( how long it lasts in your system). It has about a 24-36 hour half life. I hope I have explained it enough for you.take care |

Methadone is a synthetic opioid, used medically as an analgesic, antitussive and a maintenance anti-addictive for use in patients on opioids and it is useful in the treatment of opioid dependence. It has cross-tolerance with other opioids including heroin and morphine and a long duration of effect: oral doses of methadone can stabilize patients by mitigating opioid withdrawal syndrome. Higher doses of methadone (60–80 mg+ ) can block the euphoric effects of heroin, morphine, and similar drugs. As a result, properly dosed methadone patients can reduce or stop altogether their use of these substances. |
